Spay Neuter and Surgery

Skilled hands, safe procedures, faster recovery

Surgery can be a stressful experience for pets and owners alike. Our goal is to make every procedure as safe and comfortable as possible, guiding you from the pre-operative consultation to full recovery.

Veterinary surgical suite at The Animal Doctor

Our surgical suite is equipped with state-of-the-art anaesthetic monitoring including pulse oximetry, capnography, electrocardiography, and blood pressure measurement. Heated tables maintain optimal body temperature and a dedicated recovery ward ensures your pet awakens safely under the watch of a trained veterinary nurse.

Spaying and neutering are routine procedures with far-reaching health benefits. Beyond preventing unwanted litters, sterilisation reduces the risk of mammary tumors, uterine infections, testicular cancer, and injuries from roaming. We recommend spaying or neutering most pets between six and twelve months of age, adjusted for breed and size.

We also perform a wide range of soft tissue surgeries including mass removals, wound repairs, abscess drainage, foreign body extraction, bladder stone removal, and eye surgeries. Each patient undergoes thorough pre-operative blood screening, a tailored anaesthetic plan, multi-layered pain management, and a clear take-home recovery guide to ensure the best outcomes.

Why choose us for spay neuter and surgery

Continuous vital monitoring

Heart rate, oxygen levels, carbon dioxide, blood pressure, and body temperature are monitored throughout the procedure for safety and precision.

Pre-surgical blood evaluation

Blood tests ensure the kidneys, liver, and blood cells are ready for anaesthesia and help identify potential risks before surgery begins.

Heated surgery tables

Maintaining body warmth reduces complications and supports faster recovery after surgery.

Comprehensive pain management

We combine local anaesthesia, systemic pain relief, and anti-inflammatory medication so your pet remains comfortable throughout and after surgery.

Supervised recovery ward

Pets wake up in a calm, warm environment with trained nurses monitoring their recovery until they are ready to return home.

Clear post-operative guidance

Each surgery comes with a printed recovery plan, medication schedule, wound-care instructions, and a complimentary follow-up suture check.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best age for spaying or neutering?
Most pets benefit from sterilisation between six and twelve months. The ideal timing depends on breed, size, and individual health. Large breeds may benefit from a slightly later procedure. We advise during consultation.
Is anaesthesia safe for my pet?
Modern anaesthesia in veterinary medicine is very safe. Pre-surgical blood work checks organ function, and we monitor vital signs continuously. Serious complications are rare.
How long does recovery take?
Most pets return to normal activity within ten to fourteen days after spay or neuter surgery. More complex procedures have longer recovery times. Activity should be limited and an e-collar used to protect the wound.
Can I visit my pet during recovery?
Pets recover fastest in a quiet environment. In-ward visits are not allowed, but we provide updates and photos when your pet is awake and comfortable.
What happens if there is an emergency during surgery?
We have emergency medications, oxygen, and resuscitation equipment ready. Our team is trained in veterinary CPR and we will contact you immediately if anything unexpected occurs.
