Emergency & Critical Care

When every minute counts for your pet.

Pet emergencies do not keep business hours — and neither do we. The Animal Doctor Vet Clinic runs a 24/7 on-call veterinary team ready to respond whenever a crisis strikes. Call our emergency line the moment something feels wrong and we will walk you through first-aid steps over the phone while preparing for your arrival.

Veterinary emergency treatment in progress at The Animal Doctor Vet Clinic

We handle a wide range of urgent cases including road trauma, suspected poisoning, snake bites, difficulty breathing, seizures, sudden collapse, severe vomiting or diarrhoea, bloat (GDV), eye injuries, urethral obstruction, and broken bones.

Our emergency setup includes IV fluid therapy, oxygen supplementation, critical-care medications, and rapid in-house diagnostics — blood work and digital X-rays — for immediate stabilisation. We act fast to save lives while pinpointing the underlying cause.

When a case requires specialist care beyond our clinic, we coordinate the referral, share all records electronically with the receiving facility, and follow up after the transfer. You are never left to navigate a crisis alone.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a veterinary emergency?
Any situation that threatens your pet's life, breathing, or mobility — road accidents, suspected poisoning, snake bites, seizures, collapse, bloat, severe bleeding, inability to urinate, or difficulty breathing. When in doubt, call us immediately rather than waiting.
What should I do while driving to the clinic?
Keep your pet as calm, warm, and still as possible. Apply gentle, firm pressure to any bleeding wound. Do not give any medications unless our vet has specifically instructed you to. Drive safely — call ahead so we are prepared.
Are there extra charges for after-hours emergencies?
Yes, an after-hours surcharge applies to cover on-call staffing. We always prioritise stabilising your pet first and will discuss any non-urgent costs with you transparently before proceeding.
Can you treat poisoning or snake bite cases?
Yes. We stock activated charcoal, emetics, and specific antidotes for common toxins found in Nairobi, including certain snake venoms. Time is critical — call us immediately and bring the packaging or a photo of the substance if possible.
What if my pet needs specialist care you cannot provide?
If a case requires advanced specialist intervention, we stabilise your pet fully, coordinate the transfer to an appropriate specialist facility in Nairobi, share all diagnostic records electronically, and follow up with you after the handover.
